KENNETT, Mo. — A neighbor of missing 3-year-old Breeann Rodriguez has been charged in her death, authorities said Saturday.

Shawn Morgan, 43, of Ode Johnson Street in Senath, Mo., faces charges of first-degree murder, armed criminal action and tampering with physical evidence. Authorities said they believe Morgan suffocated Breeann, although as of Saturday evening, they were still searching for her body and her bicycle in an undisclosed part of the county.

The Dunklin County sheriff's office in Kennett took Morgan into custody Saturday morning.

The girl has been missing since Aug. 6. She was last seen riding her pink bicycle in front of her home in Senath, a town of 1,600 residents about 200 miles south of St. Louis. The search intensified last week when authorities found a set of training wheels, believed to be from the girl's bike, near where the family lived on Ode Johnson Street, a dead-end road.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Senath Marshal's office had offered a $45,000 reward for information on her disappearance. Authorities had been focusing on a white van that was seen in the neighborhood around the time Breeann went missing, but by Saturday morning they said it was no longer considered to be of interest.

The search for the girl involved several parties, including the Missouri Highway Patrol, the Department of Conservation and the FBI. Authorities said they received hundreds of tips from the public as the case unfolded.

    Breeann Rodriguez

The search continues for a 3-year-old southeast Missouri girl who has been missing for six days.

Now the FBI and Senath Marshal’s Office are offering a $45,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and prosecution of the person or persons responsible for the disappearance of Breeann Rodríguez.

The FBI has joined investigators from the Missouri State Highway Patrol and several county sheriffs in the search for Breeann of Senath, according to The Kennett Daily Dunklin Democrat.

    A Mother Lost Too Soon

The 30-pound Hispanic girl was last seen wearing a pink shirt and pink pants, riding a pink bicycle with training wheels.
Authorities say Breeann and her bicycle disappeared from in front of her home about noon Saturday.

Police Chief Omar Karnes said the girl lives on a dead-end street and that none of her neighbors saw any suspicious vehicles.

"She was there (then) she was gone," Karnes said. "There is nothing. No trace. We don't have any trail."

Police questioned a person of interest Saturday, but that person has been ruled out as a suspect, Karnes said. On Sunday, about 200 people joined in a search. Police handed out flyers with the child's picture.

"We're working 24 hours a day until we find her," FBI agent Matt Brummund told KFVS-TV. FBI spokeswoman Rebecca Wu said the agency immediately gets involved when children of a "tender age" go missing for no apparent reason.

"The first hours are very critical," Wu said.

Breeann's father, Edgar Rodríguez, told the TV station he is trying to stay positive, but he's fearful for his daughter.

"I don't want to think about the worst," he said.

Rodríguez said the girl is very friendly.

"She'd go with anybody," he said.

But he said the girl would never ride her bike away from the street where the family lives.

Senath is a town of about 1,600 residents in Dunklin County, about 150 miles south of St. Louis.
